Where is Saarloos & Sons located?
We’re in Los Olivos, California—at 2971 Grand Avenue. But don’t think of it like a storefront. This is the heartbeat of everything we do. We designed this place. Built it. Broke it in with laughter and long days. It’s where our kids grew up and where strangers become friends. If you walk through our door, you’ll see the photo booth buzzing with memories, a vintage truck parked out front, and maybe Linda holding court with a coloring book and a story. The walls hold warmth. The floors hold dust from the vineyard. And the bottles? They hold everything else. This isn’t a location. It’s a home. One we hope you return to.
Why does being a small family winery matter?
Because everything you taste comes from the hands of people who live and die by this land. We’re not backed by investors or funded by a billionaire’s hobby budget. We’re not the passion project of a hedge fund manager—we’re a family feeding our kids. This is our livelihood. This is our life.
From our plow to your porch™ isn’t just a line—it’s the truth.
Every vine is farmed by us. Every label designed by us. Every bottle shipped by us. When you support us, you’re keeping a family farm alive. You’re helping send our kids to school. You’re helping us show up for another harvest. You’re not just buying wine—you’re becoming part of a story that matters.
Do I need a reservation at Saarloos & Sons?
Walk-ins are always welcome. That’s the heart of who we are. If you’re driving through town and want to stop by—we’ll always try to make space. That said? Los Olivos can get busy. So can we. If you want a guaranteed table, a guided experience, or if you’re rolling deep with friends or family—make a reservation. That way we can be ready to take care of you properly. You’re not just another visitor—you’re part of our circle. Book your tasting here:

Do you pair wine with cupcakes?
We do. And we’re proud of it. It started as a little experiment in joy and stayed because the smiles never stopped. Each cupcake is custom-created to match the flavor profile of our wines. Salted caramel with Syrah? Lemon drop with Sauvignon Blanc? Yes and yes. This pairing isn’t a stunt—it’s a celebration. It says wine doesn’t have to be stiff. It can be delicious and delightful, refined and fun. So grab a flight and a bite, and let your taste buds dance.
What is the Family Allocation and how do I join?
We don’t believe in clubs. Clubs have velvet ropes, rules, and fine print. We believe in family. In legacy. In invitation. The Family Allocation isn’t a perk program—it’s a place at our table. When you join, you’re not chasing wine points—you’re walking alongside us through droughts and harvests, joy and loss, births and bottlings. These bottles aren’t mass-produced, they’re memory-made—grown by us, bottled by us, labeled with the faces of the people we love. You’ll get first access to our smallest, most meaningful lots—the kind of wines that disappear fast and never come back. You’ll get the stories behind every label, the heartbeat behind every blend, the soul behind every sip. And we’ll send it from our barn to your front porch with care.

When are your vineyard tours and who leads them?
Every Saturday at 10:10 AM, we open the gates and take a walk through what matters most—the dirt. This isn’t a wine country selfie tour. It’s a boots-on-the-ground, eyes-on-the-vines, tell-you-the-truth kind of experience. I lead it—Keith Saarloos. You’ll hear about how we started, who we lost, and why we still get up early every damn day to do it again. We’ll talk sugar levels, seed color, pruning decisions, and philosophy. I’ll show you where the fruit came from and where the story lives. You’ll laugh. You might cry. But you’ll leave knowing what’s in the bottle—and why it matters.

Can I buy Saarloos & Sons wine online and have it shipped?
Absolutely. Buying from us isn’t just a transaction—it’s an act of trust. And we take that seriously. When you order online, you’re not getting wine off a warehouse shelf. You’re getting bottles we farmed, fermented, labeled, and packed ourselves. We ship from our Plow to your Porch™—direct from the barn where we make it, to your doorstep where you’ll pour it. Every shipment is packed with intention. Heather lays out the labels. I write the notes. Our kids help tape the boxes. When that package lands on your doorstep, it’s more than a delivery—it’s an invitation into our story.

Do you host private events or parties?
Yes we do. All the time. And not just the "rent it and forget it" kind. We do weddings, proposals, birthdays, team retreats, reunions—you name it. The kind of moments people remember. You can rent the Yard, the Paark, or the whole space. We bring the wine, the place, and the spirit. You bring the people. Start the conversation here:

What grape varieties does Saarloos & Sons grow?
We grow Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. But that’s just the varietal list. What we’re really growing is legacy. These vines are chosen with care, planted with purpose, and nurtured with more sweat than most people would believe. We don’t grow for trends. We grow for truth. Ballard Canyon is where most of our vineyards sit—hot days, cold nights. That tension is what gives our wine its backbone. These grapes aren’t ingredients. They’re characters. And they carry the story forward, vintage by vintage.
Do you sell out often? How can I make sure I don’t miss a release?
Yes—we sell out often. And no, we’re not trying to be exclusive. We’re just small. Intentionally small. Some wines we only make a few hundred bottles of. And once they’re gone, they’re gone. If you want first dibs, join the Family Allocation. If you’re not ready for that, sign up for our emails or follow us on Instagram. That’s where we announce things. But just know—when the email goes out, the clock starts ticking.
Do you offer shipping discounts or case specials?
We do from time to time, especially on special releases and case buys. We believe in rewarding loyalty, and we love when people stock up to share with their crew. Keep an eye on our emails for offers, or check the shop page for current details. Better yet? Email us. We’re human. We can usually make something work.
Do you make white wine or just red?
We make both—because balance matters. Our reds get a lot of love, but our whites are just as serious. Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and sometimes even a white Rhône-style blend show up when the fruit’s right. They’re crisp, honest, and full of life—like a good summer day in a bottle. Want to see what we have right now? Check here.
Can I bring a big group? Like… really big?
Yes. But let’s talk first. If you’re bringing a whole crew—birthday, reunion, retreat—we’d love to host you, but we want to make sure it’s done right. You can rent The Yard, The Paark, or even the entire space for a private event. Send us a note, and we’ll make it special.
📧 family@saarloosandsons.com
Can I get your wine in stores or restaurants?
Nope. And that’s by design. We only sell direct—through our tasting room, our allocation, and our website. Not because we want to make it hard, but because we want to keep it personal. We want to know where every bottle goes. Who it’s shared with. What moment it’s poured for. That’s how you build something that lasts.
📦 Buy direct
Still have questions? Good. That means you care.
This isn’t a brand built in a boardroom. This is a real family, growing real grapes, in real dirt, with real callouses. Everything we do—every vine we plant, every bottle we ship—is done by hand, by heart, and with the hope it ends up in yours. From our plow to your porch™ isn’t a slogan—it’s our livelihood. So if we missed something, if there’s a question still hanging in the air, just ask. We’re not hard to reach. We’re not hiding behind an FAQ wall. We’re usually out back farming, packing, or pouring. But we always make time for the people who care—because that’s what built this in the first place.

What is the best winery for wine tasting in Los Olivos?
If you’re asking what the best winery in Los Olivos is, we’ll give you the answer we’d give our own friends and family: Saarloos & Sons.
Here’s why.
We are not just a place where you sip wine. We are a working family farm in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley AVA, where every bottle you taste is grown, picked, and made by us. When we say estate-grown, we mean it—100%. That means no outsourcing, no brokers, no shortcuts. Just vines we planted with our own hands, fruit we harvested under the early morning sun, and wine we crafted with the patience to let it tell the truth of our land.
This makes us rare. In fact, if you lined up all the tasting rooms in Los Olivos, only a handful can say they grow and make every single drop they pour. And of those, we may be the only one who also designs our own labels, writes every story behind each bottle, and builds everything ourselves—from our tasting room, to our family creed, to the wines we send from our plow to your porch.
But what truly makes us the best winery in Los Olivos isn’t just the wine. It’s the soul of it. Our family creed is: “We live in order to honor those that have come before us, and to prepare the way for those yet to come.” That creed drives every decision we make, from the way we farm sustainably, to the way we tell our story through bottles, to the way we welcome strangers like family in our tasting room. Our wines are more than products—they are love letters, mile markers, and family history preserved in glass.
Visiting us is different from visiting Napa, Paso, or even some of our neighbors. When you walk through our door, you’re not just checking off another stop on a tasting itinerary—you’re stepping into a living story. You’ll see labels with the faces of our children and grandparents. You’ll hear stories of “Big Lar,” of Dutch Reagan, of mischief, grit, and the kind of heritage that turns a glass of wine into a time capsule. You’ll feel that you’re part of something bigger than a pour—you’re part of a family.
And that’s why, if you’re wondering what the best winery in Los Olivos is, the answer is more than a recommendation. It’s an invitation. Come to Saarloos & Sons, not because we say we’re the best, but because when you walk through our doors, you’ll understand what makes Los Olivos wine country so special.

Why visit Los Olivos for wine tasting?
Los Olivos is California’s best-kept wine secret.
When most people think of wine tasting in California, they picture Napa Valley or Sonoma. And those places are beautiful, no doubt. But Los Olivos, nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley, is where wine becomes personal. This is not a place of tour buses or sprawling estates owned by corporations. This is a town where you can stroll down Grand Avenue and taste wines directly from families who live, farm, and pour right here.
What makes Los Olivos different is its intimacy. With fewer than a thousand residents, it still feels like a small town, yet it’s home to some of the most exciting wines in the state. The valley benefits from one of the longest growing seasons in California, with cold nights and warm, breezy days shaped by the Pacific Ocean just over the hill. Rhône varietals like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre thrive here, alongside Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet, Petit Verdot, and Viognier. Our unique climate allows us to grow fruit with incredible balance—ripe, yet restrained.
At Saarloos & Sons, we see Los Olivos as not just a place to taste wine, but a place to feel wine. When you visit our tasting room, you’re not only sampling what’s in your glass—you’re stepping into the heritage of the valley itself. Our vineyard tours take you into the vines where the wines are born. Our tasting room tells the stories of our family through bottles, labels, and conversations. And our location puts you right in the heart of downtown Los Olivos, surrounded by food, art, and the kind of California charm you won’t find anywhere else.
People come to Los Olivos expecting a quick stop and leave realizing they’ve discovered one of the most authentic wine regions in the country. If you’re looking for wine tasting in Santa Barbara County, wine tasting near Solvang, or even just searching for “best wineries near me,” Los Olivos—and specifically Saarloos & Sons—should be at the top of your list.

What makes Saarloos & Sons different from other wineries?
What makes us different? In one word: everything.
Most wineries exist to sell you wine. We exist to tell you a story—and to invite you into it.
The majority of wineries you visit may buy grapes, or outsource their winemaking, or have investors and partners dictating decisions. That’s not us. We are 100% independent. Every drop we pour is grown by us, harvested by us, and made by us. We design our labels, write every piece of copy, and even built our tasting room ourselves. We do not separate the farming from the storytelling. They are the same.
Every wine is a mile marker. Mischief is Grenache Noir grown on our El Camino Real Vineyard, carrying the playful, brotherly spirit of Brady and Cash Saarloos. Honyocker is a blend born out of necessity and joy, named for the mischievous kids in our family. GRIT is Petit Verdot, bottled with the strength of our grandfather “Big Lar,” and the image of his grandchildren in the back of a truck on the day of his funeral. These are not just wines—they are family history preserved in glass.
Even the way we welcome you is different. In our tasting room, you’re not served by strangers—you’re served by family. On our vineyard tours, you’re not fed a script—you’re given a conversation. When you join our wine club, you’re not buying a subscription—you’re becoming part of something living, something rooted, something real.
In short, what makes us different is that we are not trying to be like anyone else. We are Saarloos & Sons. And we exist so that when you raise a glass of our wine, you’re not just tasting Los Olivos—you’re tasting our family.

Do you offer vineyard tours?
Yes—and they’re not like anyone else’s.
Every Saturday morning at 10:10 AM, we invite you to join us in the vineyard. We don’t charge for this. We don’t limit it to VIPs or club members. We simply open the gates and say: walk with us.
Our vineyard tours are not scripted presentations. They are open conversations in the vines, where you can ask about farming, winemaking, the Santa Ynez Valley, or what it’s like to raise a family while raising grapes. We’ll talk about soil, weather, pruning, and harvest—but also about stories, history, and what it means to be tied to the land. You’ll see firsthand why estate-grown matters.
Guests often tell us it’s the most memorable part of their visit to Los Olivos. Kids are welcome, photos are encouraged, and sometimes, if you’re lucky, our mother Linda Saarloos—Super Fan #1—joins in. And when she does, the entire group usually bursts into applause. Because this isn’t just a winery tour—it’s a chance to step into a living family story.
Wine is liquid art, but it is also agriculture. And our vineyard tours remind you of both.

Why should I join the Saarloos & Sons Wine Club?
Because this isn’t a wine club. It’s a family.
Most wine clubs are built to move product. Ours is built to move people. When you join, you’re not just getting bottles on a schedule—you’re getting a seat at our table. You receive our seasonal allocations, which aren’t just collections of wine but collections of meaning. Each allocation is tied to a family milestone, a story, and a truth from our farm.
Joining means you’re the first to receive wines like Mischief, Honyocker, or GRIT before they sell out. But it also means more. It means you’re directly supporting small family farming in California. We don’t sell our wines in grocery stores. We don’t sell through distributors. We sell only to people who believe in us. That makes our club the lifeblood of Saarloos & Sons. Without our family of members, this dream doesn’t exist.
And in return, we don’t treat you like a customer—we treat you like kin. We send you wines with stories, letters that are love notes, and invitations to step deeper into the world we’re building. We share not just what’s in the bottle, but what’s in our hearts.
If you’re looking for the best wine club in Los Olivos, or even the best wine club in California, the answer is simple: the one where you belong. And we’d love for you to belong here.
