100% Petit Verdot is a very hard wine to find. It is special. It is bold without being overpowering. It is, an Independent. It reminds me of my niece. This is her story.

Lane Linda : whenever lane comes out to see us, she rides with me.

Up front in the grape ape between her father and I.

Sitting on the engine cover,

or as I like to call it, the captains chair.

Right in the middle of the action.

Whenever I visit her we go on an adventure.

I’ll go see someone and she will roll with me.

It’s an unlikely combo, but I think we get each other.

You see, Lane is an independent.

She isn’t the kind of tree you plant.

She just grows.

I like to water those kinds of small trees.

I am a fan of her spirit.

She mails me her school photos.

She also wore a Ssco pin on her school photo.

She FaceTimes me out of the blue just to talk.

She will write down 10 questions to grill my daughter’s boyfriend at a 15 person family lunch.

And then put his feet to the fire.

She is the main character in her own story,

And I for one, am here for it.

On one of our adventures a few years ago we stopped in to see @wilkinsonsfinegoods and say hello. Her and my son poked around the store and Clint and I caught up.

She put on this hat and I snapped this photo.

She asked to see it and said,

“that’s a label”

That’s Lane….

We went and and got an ice cream,

Soaking in a town.

Lane doesn’t need your love, nor your admiration, what she demands, in the most polite and respectful way,

is your respect.

The youngest kid in a family full of big personalities, full of strong beautiful independent people that are highly competitive employing brute force tactics.

Lane is kind of little tree that grows well in this forest.

The comfort of everyone looking out for her,

And the grit of no one needing to.

A loud voice with a good heart and something to say.

There isn’t a kids table when our family eats.

She would refuse to sit there anyway.

But when she finds out that there is a family group text that she isn’t apart of.

We should all fear for our lives.

I’m a big fan of these types of women.

Our family is filled with them.

Keep the dependents, Independent.

But buy them an ice cream and soak in the town with them, every chance you get.
